Rescue 1 – 2017 Pierce Rescue Engine
Rescue 1 is a 2017 Pierce Rescue Engine designed to support fire suppression, technical rescue, and emergency medical response operations. The apparatus is equipped with a Waterous 2,000 GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank, providing strong initial attack and sustained water supply capabilities for a wide range of emergency incidents.
For vehicle rescue and technical extrication, Rescue 1 carries a full complement of Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools, including small and large spreaders, two O-cutters, a combination tool, a brake pedal cutter, and three different size hydraulic rams. Hydraulic operations are supported by both on-board hydraulic pumps and a portable hydraulic pump, allowing for flexible deployment during complex rescue scenarios.
The unit is further outfitted with high-pressure airbags, Rescue 42 stabilization struts, multiple types of cribbing, chains, and a winch to support vehicle stabilization, lifting, and recovery operations. A comprehensive cache of hand tools, Milwaukee power tools, and various firefighting tools ensures the crew is prepared for diverse rescue and suppression needs.
Rescue 1 is BLS certified by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Service Systems and carries EMS equipment to support patient care at medical and rescue incidents, including oxygen, trauma bags, airway management supplies, and patient packaging equipment. These capabilities allow crews to provide immediate medical care while rescue and extrication operations are underway.
Additional equipment includes ventilation equipment such as a fan and saws, spill mitigation equipment, and an on-board air cascade system to support extended operations and on-scene air cylinder replenishment.
Fire suppression capabilities include two 200-foot crosslays, a front bumper 1¾-inch handline, and 3-inch and 5-inch supply lines, allowing for rapid deployment and effective water delivery.
The apparatus is designed to seat four firefighters, in addition to a driver and an officer, providing a full crew ready to safely and effectively handle complex emergency incidents.
