Tanker 2 (1980s)
Tanker 2 – GMC 7000/7500-Series Cab-Over (Ex–Oil Tanker)
Tanker 2 was the department’s second water tanker, acquired to enhance rural firefighting and water supply operations in areas without hydrant access. The apparatus was believed to be built on a GMC 7000/7500-series cab-over chassis, dating to the early–mid 1970s, and featured a single rear axle configuration.
The tanker was equipped with a distinctive elliptical water tank with an estimated capacity of approximately 3,000 gallons, providing a significant mobile water supply for tanker shuttle operations and extended fireground support. The unit was converted from an ex–oil tanker, reflecting a common and practical approach of the era in which commercial vehicles were repurposed to meet fire service needs.
Tanker 2 was not in service for an extended period and was removed from service after the engine failed, ending its operational use prematurely. Due to limited historical records, the exact in-service and retirement dates are unknown.
